These are my amazing nephews - Jake (right) & Ryan (left)! Both are the hugest supporters of City Chik on a mission! They have been hearing my stories, watching my videos, and have been wanting to create something for Kids to be more involved....and we are announcing City Chik on a Mission Kids Kriations (yes- we know we didn't spell it right - but that is how we do things over here..and it is consistent with our shop in Ghana)! We are so excited to have kids be able to join us on our journey as we connect, create and change...one grassroots project at a time!
Below is a message from Jake to you and your children....
My Aunt started a non profit organization called City Chik on a Mission to help families in impoverished countries like Kenya and Ghana. I have learned many life lessons from what my aunt told me about her various trips, things that most kids here in the United States often take for granted.
In poor countries, kids don't have any access to clean drinkable water as we do. They have to walk many miles to get a bucket of water, which is the most basic thing to live on. While kids in the United States either take a bus or drive to school, the kids in poor countries have to walk miles to get there.
For fun, kids in poor countries do not have electronics such as television, video games, cell phones, but they manage to have fun with basic things that come from their surroundings such as wood to carve toys. While we have tons of markers and crayons to draw, they have to break crayons into halves, which makes them feel like they have a bigger quantity of them.
I was also thinking it must be hard for them to sleep at night because there are a lot of mosquitos and they don't have beds like we do in the United States.
From what I hear from my Aunt and the places she has traveled, I think that kids in these countries think more about helping their families with chores than we do. While they don't have a lot they still make the best of they do have and are very happy!
I wanted to write this because I want to let other children know that even though we might not be in these impoverished countries. we can still help and give these children a better life...in what I am calling City Chik on a Mission Kids Kriations...stay tuned for more! Hope you get to join me in making a difference!
Enough said..could I be a prouder aunt....don't think so!
Our first project for City Chik on a Mission Kids Kriations - is making bracelets with semi precious stones from Nepal! Dina Pinelli is having her class take part and we will be selling these on our website. All sales go directly to making a change in Nepal..
With oodles of love
